Fringe

“A few years ago, I was in a bad way. Couldn’t pull myself out.  I mean, inside, I knew that I was somebody else.  There was only one other person who believed that.  Jasmine.  She saw the man I knew I was.  She was the only one.  I mean, sometimes you just gotta believe in what you can’t see.” -Henry

Imagine being so sure of who you are, who you love, where you’re headed, then someone, everyone, tells you you’re wrong, pulls a 180 and rocks your world.  How do you recover?  How do you survive?  You run because the only thing left are memories, and nobody but you cares they even happened.  But exhaustion and confusion take over, so you start believing what everybody tells you just so they’ll stop asking questions, stop shooting at you, stop chasing you down to drag you in to “safe custody.”  But part of you knows this isn’t your world.  This isn’t your life.  This wasn’t how it was supposed to play out.  Everything is wrong.  Everything is just…wrong.  And the love of your life is falling in love with your evil twin he thinks is you.  Damn, you just can’t cut a break.

I missed Fringe.  I missed the way Broyles said “Agent Dunham,”  Gene randomly making an appearance in the lab, the ridiculousness of Farnsworth’s spotty knowledge of cryptanalysis, linguistics and computer hacking being on point 99% of the time.

For those of you unfamiliar with “the other J.J. Abrams show,” it’s kind of a modern-day X Files.  Fringe and Lost are the only two series I have seen start to finish, and now that the former’s third season is starting up, I’m pretty stoked.  I’m not usually one to go crazy over a show; I’m more into books, but there’s just something about losing yourself in the characters for an hour a week that releases some…tension, I guess.  I like Olivia.  I like her as a brunette.

For those of you who watch the show, this season premier, I suppose, sets the tone for the rest of the season.  Seasons 1 and 2 were more on a case-by-case basis, each episode pretty much standing alone, going from one weird happening to another with underlying long-term themes of Peter-Walter-Olivia dynamic and the OtherVerse.  Season 3 seems like it’s going to be more character development, getting Olivia back where she belongs, straightening out all of the I-love-you-Peter business, reconciling father and son.  I don’t know if that prediction will pan out; I don’t read much on theories or spoilers, and I like to enjoy the ride one week at a time.  Not sure how it’ll all come together or how Bolivia will fit into the trio while they solve weird cases, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to find out.

Day 33: Farewell, FlashForward

Breakfast: banana
Lunch: bbq pork sandwich (cilantro, carrots), lemonade, coconut milk + boba
Dinner (over a few hours): motz sticks, fried mushrooms, mini quesadilla wedge, chicken strip, diet pepsi, lemon cake

Flash Forward ended today.  And they’re canceling the show.  And of course there are about a million and a half cliffhangers.  It’s sad that it really didn’t catch on.  I mean, it wasn’t that hard to follow.  The characters are likable…there are random love stories, cute kids, and even Harold is in it…though I’m starting to think of him as “Demetri” instead of Harold-and-Kumar “Harold.”  But really…look at these faces:

Apparently, they already have 5 seasons all written out.  Maybe they counted their chickens before they hatched, but it’s easy to see how they hoped this would be the next Lost.  Though not as epic (?) as its ABC brother, it definitely has a similar “movie feel” to it.  You never really know who the “bad guys” are, and when it explores each character’s background and personality, you find a few surprises along the way.

So, unless the show gets adopted (read: bought) by another network (Brandon suggested SyFy), then it’s farewell to another great series.  Please, SyFy, will you keep this one alive?

Dinner: 2 empanadas, chips and salsa, water

There’s a really big difference between running on gravel and running on concrete.  For some reason, my entire body still hurts from yesterday’s run.  Maybe it’s also due to the fact that I haven’t run in awhile.  There goes my plan.  Really, there’s no excuse.  Tsk on me.  *shakes head*

In other news, Lost ended on Sunday.  I like how they made it all about the characters, not so much the “wtf, you didn’t answer any of my questions…the numbers…where’s walt…why did Jin and Sun have to die like that…what about the baby?” …etcetcetc. I don’t know if I could have come up with a better way to end it.

And…here are more unanswered questions that, alas, will never be answered:

Day 03: Glee!

Breakfast: Couple spoonfuls of oatmeal, strawberries and pineapple, English muffin (butter and strawberry jam), couple strips of bacon, a few home fries, diet pepsi
Lunch: 2 slices of thin crust pizza
Dinner: Cobb salad, a couple of fries, apple juice, chocolate cake, milk

So…day 3 and I’m already skipping a workout.  Well, not really…technically I’m exercising 5 days a week…not necessarily 5 days in a row.  Doubles just kill me.  I was at work for literally 12 hours today starting at 5am.  I think my nap replaced my workout.  My legs need to recover.  I’m so out of shape.  Working around my schedule, though, exercise looks good tomorrow, Friday and Saturday.

Finally caught up with Glee, so I’m on the new season.  Caution: quasi-Spoiler Alert if you haven’t seen the latest episode.

Though I loved Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” toward the end of the episode, I’m not sure what I think of this week’s hour as a whole.  I think I had a hard time watching it because everybody seems to be in a gigantic slump.  All the songs were slower and about loneliness, and all of the characters sort of did a switcheroo as far as their typical role: Rachel’s in a sable place with her man and isn’t causing any drama, Quinn’s the voice of reason and wisdom, Puck hardly had any wise-cracks (save mouthing “are you gay…?” during Kurt’s solo in the practice room), Sue’s getting all flustered, and Mr. Shu is all sad and lonely and sad.  It kind of threw me for a loop.

Oh, and click the picture above for a Glee Medley Flash Mob in Italy I stumbled upon while looking for pictures.  Haha =)

Also…hell yeah, Mavs.
