The Big Move

These past few days have been so filled with parties, partings, and moving, it hasn’t completely hit me yet that this is really happening.  I’m starting a job I went to school for.  I’m moving to a familiar city.  I’m staying with good friends.  I feel like it’s all moving so fast; maybe it’s just because it feels like I’ve been so stagnant for the past year and a half.  It’s a nice change of pace, and I feel like I can take on the world.

I don’t think I have ever moved my entire life from one place to another so quickly and with so few possessions.  Clothes, computer, and a few other essentials all fit into my cute little car, and my friend and I made the crazy drive down to New Orleans from Dallas.  The day we left, it was snowing (”relatively,” according to a friend from up north) ridiculously hard, and we definitely passed more than a handful of cars in the ditches on the side of the road.  Kind of nerve wracking, but we made it down alright, though it took a couple hours longer than normal due to some interstate closures.

Now, I’m pretty much settled in, got all of my paperwork taken care of for work, and I’m twiddling my thumbs waiting for the go-ahead from HR once they get the screening test results.  In the meantime, I’m content with catching up with old friends and driving aimlessly around the city to reacquaint myself with it.  I never noticed how much I didn’t go off campus until I started visiting after graduation.  New Orleans is a crazy cool city with a lot of history and soul.  The people are proud and friendly, and you will never want for great food.  And though I really don’t see myself raising a family here, this is definitely a great place for a first job and a good time.

Hopefully I will get to all of the things I never did in school and more.  I’m definitely looking forward to sharing my adventures with you guys. Stay tuned! =)

Days 34 and 35: Oh, UFC nights.

Day 34
Breakfast: Honey Bunches of Oats
Lunch/Dinner: curry pasta (chicken, zucchini), mexican rice, diet pepsi
Drinks: 2 dos xx, whiskey shot, irish car bomb

Day 35
Breakfast: Empanada, slice of meat lover’s pizza
Lunch: chicken, rice, beans
Dinner: 2 slices of meat lover’s pizza, slice of cafe mocha cheesecake, glass of milk

I’m not a huge fan of working UFC nights at the bar.  People run out on their bill.  People sit for the whole time (4-5 hours), run a hundred and six dollar tab, then tip four bucks.  People three times my size get all up in my face when I can’t give them an entire plate-full of limes.  I’m sorry, but we need those.  Please step off.

Day 11: Double (the fun.)

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, 2 strips of bacon, english muffin (olive oil butter, strawberry jam), home fries, strawberries and pineapples
Exercise: working a double then walking 0.6 miles lol
Lunch/Dinner: 2 Wendy’s chicken sandwiches sans 2 bun bottoms, baked potato (bacon, sour cream, chives, butter), water

I think that work should count as exercise if it feels like your legs are going to fall off when you finally have a chance to sit down after 10 hours.  Real exercise the next three days.

Dr. Scholls

Spending a minimum of 8 hours running around a hotel (12-14 when you’re working a double) takes a ridiculous toll on your feet and lower back.  I had no idea how much shoes make a difference in that department until I got a pair of these babies:

So Comfy!

Three cheers for Dr. Scholls!

I saw them at the store and I thought, hey, why not.  They feel pretty squishy.  But alas!  Tricky packaging stacks them so they feel twice as thick as they really are.  However, this didn’t seem to make a difference, because 10 hours later, no back pain, no arch pain, no pain at all.  I felt quite fantastic, like I could go on for another 10 hours.  Dr. Scholls has pretty much saved my life and I’m totally gellin’ and will be gellin’ forevermore.  Thank you, Dr. Scholls, whoever, wherever you are.  You have made my everyday cute shoes into working cute shoes so I don’t have to wear those black no-slip bricks-strapped-to-my-feet-looking shoes.
